London prepares for hydrogen fuel cell buses

Friday 30 October 2009

This hydrogen refuelling facility will be built in east London and should be responsible for refuelling and maintaining five hydrogen fuel cell buses, according to Renewable Energy Focus.

The five buses will be operated by Transit operator First, and the build of the facility should start in early 2010. In that case, it can be finished by summer. The equipment necessary for refuelling, and specialist maintenance equipment will be supplied by Air Products. The five hybrid fuel cell buses are zero-polluting, and will help to make London a bit cleaner. It will also be a very good test case to explore the hydrogen technology a bit more, and perhaps find more alternatives for cleaner fuel and greener energy.

The mere development of the five new buses is a very positive thing for the public transport sector. However, commercial transport companies can also help reducing CO2-emission by making more efficient use of their fleet. New technology, for instance C-Track Assist, makes it possible to create a better overview of a fleet, which will help increase its effectiveness. This configurable management system perfectly meets the needs of every client. When operating a fleet effectively, it might be possible to slim it down in order to be more cost-efficient. Needless to say, this will also reduce the CO2 emission of the fleet!
